BEYOND THE HORIZON, BETWEEN THE SEA AND THE SKY

The historic natural ultramarine blue becomes gold.

Ultramarine means beyond the sea. What is hidden beyond the sea? The illustrations of the Royal Botanical expedition to New Granada (1783-1816 – Territory covering present-day Colombia) that make up these paintings symbolize newly discovered paradises and hidden treasures beyond the ocean's horizon. Symbols of power and eternity, pigment and precious metal, build a mixed reality between the old continent and the new world.

This project evokes the unknown, distant worlds and adventures: the sea, distance, immensity, longing, mystery, and magic that encourages us to know the never seen, the remote, where few have arrived.
