The historic natural ultramarine blue becomes gold.

Ultramarine means beyond the sea. What is hidden beyond the sea? The illustrations of the Royal Botanical expedition to New Granada (1783-1816 – Territory covering present-day Colombia) that make up these paintings symbolize newly discovered paradises and hidden treasures beyond the ocean’s horizon. Symbols of power and eternity, pigment and precious metal, build a mixed reality between the old continent and the new world.

This project evokes the unknown, distant worlds and adventures: the sea, distance, immensity, longing, mystery, and magic that encourages us to know the never seen, the remote, where few have arrived.
